THE VIRGINIA GENERAL ASSEMBLY WANTS TO ELIMINATE THE SALES TAX
EXEMPTIONS
RELATED TO OUR INDUSTRIES ON JULY 1, 2004.
PLEASE RESPOND BY MONDAY, JANUARY 26th TO THE SUBCOMMITTEE MEMBERS LISTED
ON
THE BELOW WEBSITE.
2004 General Assembly
The House Finance Committee wants to eliminate all of the Sales Tax Exemptions in existence. That includes sales tax exemptions which affect The Production Industry.
Next Monday, January 26, we will go in front of House Finance Subcommittee #1 to make our case to extend our exemption until 2009. Please contact the subcommittee members listed at the website, http://www.filmva.com/glcom.html by Monday morning and tell them how important this bill is to you. Keep it short and fact filled. Reference HB-1262 and use the Talking Points linked there. Delegate Bill Janis is the patron. He is on this committee so you need not contact his office. Please respect this request. Del. Bill Janis submitted this bill to help our industry. Please make your immediate phone calls to the other committee members before Monday. Their phone numbers are on the website above. It is OK to talk to their Legislative Aid to the Delegate. E-mails are good as well and should also be submitted. Phone calls can be received on Saturday and Sunday, so please call.
NEWS FLASH! FOR TUESDAY, JANUARY 27, 2004
On Tuesday, January 27, the VPA, the Virginia Film Office, vendors and
suppliers will be at the General Assembly Office Building, located at 9th and
Broad (Richmond) , near Room D, with a large setup display to help bring
notice to the Legislators of how important HB 1262 is to you, Virginia and our
industry.
We have several businesses and crew who are donating working props and/or displays and their time from 7:30am to 6pm. They will be helping out answering questions and talking to Legislators. Some of these companies and crew are; In Your Ear, The Dreams Factory, BES Television, Pro Products, Merry Dunning (Producer), Andrea Levin (Props). I know there will be many more there helping out and I am sorry if I missed your name. We need more crew and vendors to come out and help and to talk to Legislators about how House Bill 1262 and Senate Bill 571 are needed by our industry and must be passed. We will be setting up our informational display table which will have a banner, film equipment, a film about our industry displayed on a television and craft service. We want to be noticed by the legislators and our industry. Let's show them we know how to do this by coming out to help. This display table is your table of opportunity to help you help ourselves.
If you are able to stop by and help on Tuesday in Richmond, for a short time, please call Joe Cacciotti at 804-272-8787 home, 804-301-6111 cell, 800-490-1988 pager or email FilmVA@aol.com. Or just show up! Dress will be business casual.
